“Shot to the heart” is about the “un coup de foudre,” the French saying for love at first sight. I wrote it one night while I was thinking about this person, who I had fallen for and listening to gunshots ringing in the neighborhood. The juxtaposition of love and death, when you feel so strongly it’s like you’re being split apart. Your blood..your love.. your tears are one in the same.

I wrote this when I was going through a situation with someone who I was holding on to knowing that I had to set myself free from the imagined future we shared, releasing myself and him without unnecessary drama, just letting it fade away.
