Blink of an eye

Blink of an eye

Written and inspired by the moments in life that make you risk it all. Taking a leap of faith to change something in your life, or to love profoundly. In the end these moments are fleeting and yet what define the unique and tragic beauty of our lives – ”just a blink of an eye”

LYRICS:

Every time I think that it will end, I find more inspiration in the end

from you.

You’re my muse.

Ever since  the day I met you

you keep me driving deeper to improve.

with you

 I can’t lose.

though all the pleasure and the pain that I thought would drain me

i thought id loose ,

loose to you

but i ve escaped my self destruction

i ve escaped your distraction

now im good

freed of you

CHorus

Riding the edge of the cliff

Taking all the risk

the fall is inescapable

We try not to slip

The end is inevitable

clean cut or slow burn

it really dont matter anyway

it s just a blink of an eye

in universal time

Verse 2

You are nothing more than a speck on the windshield

to be washed away

by the rain

and it only takes one look one small gesture

to give it all away

permanently

CHorus x 2

Gravity free

Lyrics:
I woke up before the sunrise
Minds open to what would come
The ocean glass like a mirror
Warm water calming all my anxious desires

I will take the risk knowing this could end
In a split second but i don’t fear death
Ill brace for the punch knowing i will mend
I take the fall let go of it all
Release and enjoy the trip

I let myself float
Gravity free in my peace
I see you clearly
We are free of our bodies
I let myself float
Gravity free in my peace
I see you clearly
We are free of our bodies

I rest my eyes on the horizon
Giving thanks for another day
Painted in red and orange colors
Cool winds release me in a dream state

I let myself float
Gravity free in my peace
I see you clearly
We are free of our bodies
I let myself float
Gravity free in my peace
I see you clearly
We are free of our bodies

In my lucid dreams I find, every symbol of my life
With open wings I take flight,
With eagle’s sight all is
All is inside

I let myself float
Gravity free in my peace
I see you clearly
We are free of our bodies
I let myself float gravity free in my peace
I see you clearly
We are free of our bodies

Lyrics:

Take it step by step

Day by day

Counting my blessings

Along the way (along the way)

I’m already there

Don’t despair

(All in vain)

Cuz you have no control

(ease your pain)

Ova any of it at all

And you’ve already made it

You are here

And you’re doing it all

Yea

Yes you’ve already made it

You are alive

It’s your time to fly

You are passion and flame

Drive and patient

Don’t stop

Don’t despair

No fear

There’s inspiration everywhere

I take it step by step

Enjoying the way

All the silver linings

Of my cloudy days

I’m ready to share

Joy everywhere

(Ease your pain)

Your hand in mine

(There’s no shame)

Your ready to shine

Cuz you’ve already made it

Have no fear

We’re ready for the call

Yea We’ve already made it

We thrive

(Have no fear, it’s all right here)

And its time to fly

You are passion and flame

Drive and patient

Don’t stop

Don’t despair

No fear

There’s inspiration everywhere

Take it step by step

Day by day

Counting my blessings along the way

Take it step by step

Take it step by step

Day by day

You are alive

(Have no fear, it’s all right here)

It’s your time to fly

You are alive

Let you be

This love song is written for someone that I knew I had to let go of. But I know that what we have can never be erased and that the moments we have had together are eternalized.

Lyrics:

Verse 1

I see love all around me

The sweetness of tears I hide

Meeting your eyes

Heart breaking of mine

Beating inside

Is power in me this resonating sound (This power)

Is all I really need right here right now

Chorus

My heart knows what to do when words will not play with me

It knows what to say when I can hardly breath

It lets go as it knows how to love unconditionally

I’m gonna let you be I wanna set you free

Post

Let you be

Set you free

Let you see

Let you be

Set you free

Let you see

Verse 2

Everything comes full circle

There’s nothing to fear this time

I am so aware of the moments we shared
(so precious)

Lives eternally In my heart and mind (Eternally)

We both are free right now

Chorus

My heart knows what to do when words will not play with me

It knows what to say when I can hardly breath

It lets go as it knows how to love unconditionally

I’m gonna let you be I wanna set you free

I’m gonna let you be I wanna set you free

It’s alright

This track was inspired by a person in the industry who was gaslighting me with respect to my musical career, telling me that what I was making was not good enough and that I had to hone it to one style of music and stop releasing material on my own and hand over the reigns to them to control. I did more research to find that this person seems to say this to many artists with ulterior financial motives. It’s my Fuck you song.

Sing it all out

This song expresses the desire to live and love to your fullest extent, take the risks without fear, recognizing that we have the potential and the power within us to fulfill our wildest pursuits and beyond. It started with the mode – C#phrygian – so that the rabab, a traditional Turkish instrument could be featured.

Surrender

This song was inspired by someone in my life who I ached to have in my arms but with whom I knew I could have no expectations. In writing this song I hoped that it can share the beauty of the energy that I felt, even if I could only continue on with our connection in thought.

Oscuro y claro

I had to grow into this song. It started with the bassline and morphed into its current state over nearly a decade. The lyrics represent my duality, accepting myself, the dark and the light, the good and the bad.

Lyrics

oh

ohh

ehhh

I hope that you find peace

I’m sorry that we didn’t have

Sorry, dad

We didn’t have those days together

For so many years, I resented you

My memories are clouded, and I still work through the pain

I am a reflection of yo–u – Reflection of you

Through and through, I am you, that’s the truth

I reflect you

I know you were confused

But you were well intentioned

You didn’t know

But life has taught you better

I see how you have grown

But your conscience won’t let you be

Can you hear me (can you hear me)

I can help you now give me your hand

I am a reflection of yo–u  – Reflection of you

Through and through, I am you, that’s the truth

I reflect you

I am a reflection of you – Reflection of you

The good and the bad

The happy and sad (that’s the truth)

I wouldn’t change anything

I reflect you

My heart is on the mend

Now that we can be friends

I will forgive, never forget

We can be friends

we can be friends

we can be friends

I am a reflection of you – Reflection of you

Through and through, I am you, that’s the truth

I reflect you

I am a reflection of you – Reflection of you

The good and the bad

The happy and sad

I wouldn’t change anything

(The good and the bad, happy and sad)

The good and the bad, the happy and sad

(I wouldn’t change anything)

I wouldn’t change anything

(The good and the bad, happy and sad)

the good and the bad, happy and sad

I wouldn’t change anything

I am a reflection of you – Reflection of you

that’s the truth yes

I reflect you

Intro

Oh

V1

I’m running with myself

I didn’t tell anybody

But now

I know that we can’t be true

Nonononono owhoa

And I know that

What we have

Is so special

All these tears

And this hurt

Is my choice

V2

You in my dreams

Oh whoa darling

Please don’t

Say its not true

I would never lie to you

Oh

Will you hold my hand so sweetly

So comforting

Will you find

My touch so sublime

Chorus

Ooo

If I could only rewrite time

Ohhowhoao

So paths would cross and our lives would align

Ohhowhoao

Bridge

Oh swing with me yeah

Oh dream with me

Take my hand in yours

And ride me off to the horizon

Those fairytales

My sweetness like a child so innocent

I didn’t know better

But I was always searching for you

And ride me off to the horizon

My sweetness like a child so innocent

Take my hand in yours

i wanna take you ride

Outro

If only if only if only

I could rewrite the time

A real story

But I know that

I’ll find you in my dreams

Verso 1

No pierdo nada

Si intento algo nuevo

y me caigo

Superar a mi ego

Aunque me juzguen

los demás

Y Sin tomarlo

Como algo personal

Las críticas son regalos

Que me hacen mejorar

No digas nada

Solo escucha

‘Lo que te’ quiero contar

Compartir mis sentimientos

Sin temor a fracasar

No lo tomaré tan personal

No me debes nada

Es un amor incondicional

Coro 1 (½)

Porque diablos soy timida

Quiero saltar desde la cima

Aunque duela la caída

Va ser fea la herida

Verso 2

No es posible es prohibido

Tocarte de verdad

Ya tienes a otra Y te voy a respetar

No lo tomaré tan personal

Te seguire amando es un amor incondicional

Coro 2

Porque diablos soy timida

Quiero saltar desde la cima

Aunque duela la caída

Va ser fea la herida

Quiero atraer tu mirada

Darte toda mienergía

‘No es que sea’ fría

Solo soy un poco timida

Puente

Estoy intentando reinventando me de nuevo

Poco a poco salir del mundo de mis sueños

Surgir de mi capullo

Y volar sin tener miedo

Pasito a pasito

Hasta encontrarte en mi camino

Coro 3

Porque diablos soy timida

Quiero gritar desde la cima

Aunque duela la caída

Va ser fea la herida

Quiero atraer tu mirada

Darte toda mienergía

‘No es que sea’ fría

solo soy un poco timida

Ya no quiero ser tímida

Quiero saltar desde la cima

Aunque duela la caída

Va ser fea la herida

Quiero atraer tu mirada

Darte toda mienergía

‘No es que sea’ fría

Solo soy un poco timida

Translation

i have nothing to lose

by trying something new

and failing

get beyond my ego

and the judgements of others

i won’t take it personally

Criticism is a gift that makes u better

Don’t say anything

Just listen

To what I want to tell you

Share my feelings

Without fearing rejection

I won’t take it personally

You owe me nothing

It’s unconditional love

why am i shy

i want to jump from the cliff

even if the fall hurts

the injury will be ugly

I want to capture your attention

give you all my energy

Don’t think i am cold

I’m just a little shy

I am trying reinventing myself again

Little by little getting out of my dream world

Surface from my cocoon

and fly without fear

Step by step

until i find you on my path

Lyrics

Verse 1

I see you when I close my eyes

Your smile is so divine

It brings me joy at all times

So when I feel sad – I close my eyes

When i’m mad – close my eyes

When I’m bad I close my eyes

To bring you bad

Prechorus

Take away my defenses

The healing of your hands makes me forget

You tickle all my senses

I’ll never forget you

Chorus

Time stops when I’m with you

The clock stops ticking (the clock stop ticking with you)

I have it all – all with you – nothing is missing (nothing is missing with you)

I want all – all of you – every single part of you

Even though alone, I am whole

I am whole

Verse 2

I feel you kiss when I close my eyes

Wet moist lips

Your smile

I hear your voice in my mind

Whispering love as I close my eyes

Singing me sweet I fantasize

You come when I close my eyes

You drive me mad

Pre chorus

Take away my defenses

The healing of your hands makes me forget

You tickle all my senses

I’ll never regret you

Chorus

Time stops when I’m with you

The clock stops ticking (the clock stop ticking with you)

I have it all – all with you – nothing is missing (nothing is missing with you)

I want all – all of you – every single part of you

Even though alone, I am whole

I am whole

Bridge

This moment will never happen again

This moment will never remain

All that is shall to pass

I enjoy the process

WIth passing moment time accelerates – I know

What I desire will never manifest

I accept

This is the process

Chorus

Time stops when I’m with you

The clock stops ticking (the clock stop ticking with you)

I have it all – all with you – nothing is missing (nothing is missing with you)

I want all – all of you – every single part of you

Even though alone, I am whole

I am whole

TIME is a pop rock song. A love song reminding that time will tell and time heals all. Time is a state that we define as the only true moment is the present one.

Lyrics:

Verse 1
I thought we would last

The test of time but I was wrong

I thought we crossed paths

So many times but I was lost

I’ll never give up

But I will lay low and I’ll let you go

I’ll keep my head up

And not drown in the ebb and flow

Chorus

It’s all about Time

Time

It’s a state of Mind

I have to Align

All has to Align

Verse 2

It’s happened so fast

And I braced myself for the fall

It’s now just the past

And I am moving forward through it all

Blind faith keeps me going on

And I know one day I’ll find love

I trust all in good time

I’m still here – I’m still alive

Chorus

It’s all about Time

Time

It’s a state of Mind

I have to Align

All has to Align

Bridge

All has to align

To be redefined

It’s all in good time

Chorus

It’s all about Time

Time

It’s a state of Mind

I have to Align

All has to Align

Bridge

It’s all about Time – All has to align

It’s a state of Mind – To be redefined

I have to Align – It’s all in good time

All has to Align

Chorus

It’s all about Time

Time

It’s a state of Mind

I have to Align

All has to Align

i love

“i love” is a rock ballad, a song about finding love in the present moment, seeing it in the small details. It was written in Glen Park as I walked through the beautiful canyon, observing the trees, listening to the birds singing, and hearing people’s footsteps behind.

Shot to the heart

“Shot to the heart” is about the “un coup de foudre,” the French saying for love at first sight. I wrote it one night while I was thinking about this person, who I had fallen for and listening to gunshots ringing in the neighborhood. The juxtaposition of love and death, when you feel so strongly it’s like you’re being split apart. Your blood..your love.. your tears are one in the same.

Fade Away

“Fade Away” is about letting go of toxic relationships and being in a flow state, enjoying all that life throws at you. I wrote this when I was going through a situation with someone who I was holding on to knowing that I had to set myself free from the imagined future we shared, releasing myself and him without unnecessary drama, just letting it fade away.

Il cuore è uno zingaro

Il cuore è uno zingaro
Italian cover song originally by Nicola Di Bari

My dad inspired me to do this song that I have heard him play for me throughout my childhood. The heart is a gypsy is the meaning of the title.. and I relate to the feeling of a restless heart.. There is so much to love in life and so much more love to discover. The first song I attempted in Italian.. and I hope to have done this beautiful song justice.

Tocar las Estrellas

“Tocar las Estrellas, my first full length album in Spanish, was co-written and produced with veteran musician/producer Dave Shul. He challenged every idea, pushing me to explore new styles and to make the songs the best that they could possibly be. It was a challenging and humbling experience,” she states. “The title track represents my life as a hopeful romantic, how the muses in life and love, like the Stars, are always out of reach, but yet always there for us to revel in their beauty and to inspire us to grow and create.”

Tocar las Estrellas was produced over the span of 2022 at Dave Shul’s studio in San Francisco and Razteria’s home studio in El Sobrante. Razteria started working with Dave in 2021 and he encouraged her to focus on writing music in Spanish. Dave has been producing music in the SF Bay Area for over 35 years including with Cornell CC Carter, Luis Enrique, Jason Becker amongst others and most recently recorded with Jim Keltner, Steve Paccaro, Jason Wall, Lawrence Juber, Eva Gardner (bass, Pink) and Julian Lennon. The album includes drum performances from veteran drummers Ronnie Smith (Maria Muldar, The Sons of the Soul Revivers, Alabama Mike), Jay Lane (Bob Weir, RatDog, Primus, The Uptones and more), Alcide Marshall (son of Eddie Marshall) and Roberto Quintana (percussion). Tracks “Ambicioso”, “Aprovecha” and “Mientras” were co-written by Venezuelan-Colombian poet Orlando Muñoz Garcia.

Por un solo hombre

Razteria’s single “Por un solo hombre” (“For one man”) releases on October 20, 2022. It describes her first reflection stamped in her mind when Ukraine was first invaded in February 2022, her gratitude for her life and her empathy for the Ukrainian people who suffer because of the madness of just one man. “Que afortunada soy, queda impresa en mi mente…” – “How fortunate I am, it stays imprinted into my mind…” the reflection of the millions of children who can’t go to school… and all the people who cannot return home.

For Razteria, the song describes how the concentration power in the hands of only one man, results in suffering. She states that she believes that there is a common desire to live simple, happy lives and hopes that the conflict can be quickly resolved to minimize all suffering on all sides. “Por un solo hombre” was co written and produced by Dave Shul and features Alcide Marshall on Drums. It was mixed by Razteria and mastered by Trakworx. The music video was shot and edited by Alex Zajicek.

Historia de un Amor

Song: Historia de un Amor
Artist: Razteria

Razteria’s reggae cover of “Historia de un Amor” (Spanish for “the story of a love”) was produced in collaboration with NJ-based UK-Jamaican musician Derek Brown and features Waddell Bell on bass, Dave Shul on guitar, Glenn Holdaway on trumpet, Liam Robertson on saxophone, and Joan Reggae Drummer. This classic love song, originally written by Panamanian songwriter Carlos Eleta Almarán in 1955, has been covered by hundreds of artists worldwide in various languages. Razteria’s rendition is accompanied by a music video at the historic Hotel Mac in Point Richmond, featuring a performance by the innkeeper Desiree Heveroh, shot by Alex Zajicek and was edited and directed by Jeremy Snowden.

Lyrics:

Ya no estás más a mi lado, corazón (You are no longer by my side, my dear)

En el alma solo tengo soledad (In my soul I only have loneliness)

Y si ya no puedo verte (And  if I can no longer see you)

¿Por qué Dios me hizo quererte (Why did God make me love you?)

Para hacerme sufrir más? (To just make me suffer?)

Siempre fuiste la razón de mi existir (You were always the reason for my existence)

Adorarte para mí fue religión (To adore you was my religion)

Y en tus besos yo encontraba (and in your kisses I found)

El calor que me brindaba (The heat that gave me)

El amor y la pasión (Love and passion)

Es la historia de un amor (This is a love story)

Como no hay otro igual (That has no comparison)

Que me hizo comprender (That made me understand)

Todo el bien, todo el mal (All that is good, and all that is bad)

Que le dio luz a mi vida (That gave light to my life)

Apagándola después (And then took that light away)

Ay, qué vida tan oscura (What a dark life)

Sin tu amor no viviré (Without your love, I cannot live)

Me gusta estar sola

“Me gusta estar sola” (I like being alone) was written in the winter of 2022 in my solitary moments, having chosen to be alone during the holiday season. It is an intense contemplation of the sheer enjoyment of solitude that is necessary to the creative process. It is also a double edged sword, as in solitude you sacrifice moments together with friends and family.

Madre Tierra

Happy Earth Day! Feliz dia de la Tierra! My new track “Madre Tierra” (Mother Earth) is a tribute to the magnificence of the World, sung in Spanish with a few words in Quechua, an indigenous language spoken throughout South America. I was inspired by the complex, nuanced lyrics and theme of the anthemic song “Latinoamérica” (Calle 13), written by René Perez Joglar now known as Residente @residente together with Eduardo Cabra and Rafael Ignacio Aracaute. Instead of speaking about Latin America, its people and environment, the song’s imagery is focused on the natural world as a whole. Link in bio to listen.

Verso 1

Verse 1

Yesterday I was – what they burned
all the ashes – of what they cremated
I am the extinct being that you never saw
my guts are made of water feeding everything that exists
I am the raw material input
The bread and coffee of your breakfast
a tropical rain in the highlands
the 100 years of solitude of the old man

Coro

soy el arco iris miles de colores
soy tus emociones tu alegría y tus dolores

Chorus

I am the rainbow thousands of colors
I am your emotions, your joy and your pain

Verso 2

Verse 2

I am the full moon waning
with bright – sunrises
I am the slow germination of a seed
the wisdom of a native plant
the rarest flowers that have ever been seen
A fossilized footprint of an animal
the hunger to live without regrets
the black hole – from which nothing escapes

Puente

Tu tienes todo – todo por dentro
El mundo entero – el universo
Tu eres todo – también el tiempo
El momento – es eterno

Bridge

You have everything – everything inside
The whole world – the universe
You are everything – also time
The moment – is eternal

Verso 3

Verse 3

I am the shell of a snail
I’m a tired worker bee that keeps on working
I am gravity itself and, under the trampling of children, the dust that spins
I am the instinct of schism and the rupture needed for everything to evolve
I am mother earth
a blind expert tightrope walker

Coro

soy el arco iris miles de colores
soy tus emociones tu alegría y tus dolores

Chorus

I am the rainbow thousands of colors
I am your emotions, your joy and your pain

Ser feliz

With butterflies in my heart, bitter and sweetness, the 2 extremes that so delicately balance out my state of happiness, which floats in a world that drowns in pessimism. I feel very fortunate in my life, my family, my friends, the love of music and creating sounds together with other deep souls. I hold a space for those who are struggling physically and mentally, and I hope that I can bring a little light through my optimism. Today, symbolic for me for many reasons… I am proud to present “Ser feliz” – – to be happy, a song about growing up and finding your happiness. Created with Dave Shul, Alcide Marshall (drums), and Roberto Quintana (Percussion). Photo by Soja Photography.

Imposible

My new track “Imposible” features lyrics that were adapted from a song written by my dad, Carlos G Peñaloza. He was 19 years old in Cochabamba, and he wrote it for his first love. He could never talk to her because he was too shy, and so was she! A composite of impossibilities. ⠀
⠀
My friend Zezé also wrote a piece of the lyric! “Imposible” is the first of a series of singles in Spanish to be released this year that are co-produced with Dave Shul. You can listen to “Imposible” now on all streaming platforms – and check it out on IRIE Mag’s Jan 2022 Spotify playlist

Corazón cegado

A latin funk dance song with talents from across the Americas. Written, engineered and performed by Razteria (Bolivia-USA-NL), lyrics cowritten by blind poet Zezé (Peru-Argentina), coproduced, engineered and performed by Dave Shul (SF Bay, guitar, bass), mixed by Eddie Caipo (engineer for Enrique Iglesias, Gwen Stefani), featuring Manas Itene (drums), Raleigh Neal (keys) and Roberto Quintana (percussion). A love song, theme is that love is blind, true love is inside.

Lyrics:

Tantos años buscando
Un amor imposible
Ahora sé no tengo que buscar
No voy a llorar, (llorar), llorar
Si lloro serían lágrimas felices
Agua dulce, pa’ mis raíces
Sé que sola soy completa
Y el amor, está dentro de mi
Corazón en soledad
No puede ver en verdad
Corazón enamorado
Mira con los ojos cegados
Cegados (cegados)
Corazón en soledad
No puede ver en verdad
Voy creando mi sueño
Sin temor e invencible
Mi instinto me guía
Me voy a inundar (nadar), nadar
Mi alegría se transforma en delfine
Y me alma en agua y arrecife
Sé que sola, soy perfecta
Y el amor está dentro de mi
Corazón en soledad
No puede ver en verdad (verdad)
Corazón enamorado
Mira con los ojos cegados
Cegados (cegados)
Debemos mirarnos mirarnos mirarnos
Corazón en soledad
No puede ver en verdad (verdad)
Corazón en soledad
No puede ver en verdad (verdad)
Corazón enamorado
Mira con los ojos cegados
Cegados (cegados)
Corazón en soledad
No puede ver en verdad

Crash

⠀
Lyrically, “Crash” tells the stereotypical story of tourism in a coastal paradise, where the locals try to please the Gringo (man), but he will inevitably “crash”, a metaphor for death and an end to the power hierarchy which exists in society between humans. Most importantly, recognizing that the destruction and domination of nature is an illusion, we are only destroying ourselves. The wave’s crash represents the transformative power of nature to which we will all return. The song symbolizes the freedom we realize when we embrace our insignificance. By letting go of the myths we hold about ourselves, and allowing our egos to crash, we find peace. Death is the ultimate equalizer, we will return, like the waves to the ocean.

I Feel Naked

My new single is about the vulnerability which comes with the intensity of love and desire for another. I have pushed my limits as an artist and producer on this new single experimenting both musically and lyrically. Originally written in 2016, I first produced and released it as the song “Naked” in 2018, but felt that version was too glossy. After revisiting the track this year, I realized that the original song’s raw qualities should be brought back.

No Veo Nada

“No Veo Nada” was written using a piece of Zezé Fassmor’s poetry. Zezé became blind at 25, 10 years ago, due to a rare disease (sympathetic ophthalmia) resulting from a penetrating eye injury. Despite all of the obstacles that he has confronted he has moved forward, creating his own poetry and promoting other artists and musicians. Living in between reality and the dream world, he finds peace through acceptance, diving deep into his being, and his desire to live and love. Symbolically through this song, I am the “dulce voz,” the sweet voice, helping him to “see the horizon”.

I have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for buying equipment needed for a home studio so Zezé can start a podcast to further his artistic productions and the promotional efforts he makes for other independent artists and musicians. Learn more about Zezé and how you can support him at https://gofund.me/1cdd8cba.

Why

“Why”, my new single, of a “classic” song I wrote 15 years ago.
The message is still relevant for me. Speaking to the irrationality of the human condition, our duality or rather –multifacetedness–, the desire to taste good and bad, that one does not exist without the other, and, there is no hierarchy. There is beauty in pain we inflict on ourselves and others and that is ultimately what I’m trying to capture in this song.

When I wrote the first version of this song, I channeled something that I did not yet understand. It was born out of a very toxic pattern that I had with myself, my sexuality and more specifically my relationships with men. I realize now that the pattern progressed from early childhood experiences which formed me into who I am today. Rather than blame myself or others, I become aware of the transformational power of those experiences, therein lies the beauty in the toxicity.

I have no regrets and I embrace all my sides, all my demons and my desires. Each day that I am here still, my awareness is ever expanding.

I still haven’t quite figured out how to break the patterns necessarily but I am aware of them and there is no regret. I’m still alive and healthy and young and powerful and so everything just gives me greater perspective. I think when we push ourselves to extremes, we as a result develop empathy for those that find themselves in those extreme situations. We’ve tasted it and even though it was mentally destabilizing or physically painful, it allowed us to grow towards whatever heightened consciousness we may have the opportunity to develop, God willing, given that every moment is a gift.

The tug-of-war that we have been conditioned to make into a hierarchy “the good over the bad” / “the white over the black”, it’s all one in the same, necessary parts of our Life experience. Our pursuit of perfection is just a distraction, the imperfections make us unique and push us to grow as long as we don’t wallow in self critique.

Stop

Stop is a new single that I’m honored to present to you. For me it represents ending the toxic relationships that we have within ourselves and with each other and realizing how powerful we are. I want to extend this message to symbolize the necessary end to current systems in place that prevent us from realizing our full potential.

To highlight just two in this first post…

***Can we say “just stop” to the system that monetizes people’s illness and disproportionately impacts black people and other minorities? Healthcare for all is key to ending systemic racism. This is so evident. It’s now that we have to demand that our government recognize the need for healthcare and education for all, defunding police and military to invest in communities. We don’t need policing, we just need tools, and our health is the basis upon which everything is built.***

***Can we say “just stop” to the one narrative of linear progress, development, capital gains, and success tied to fame and material riches? I don’t want to idealize or generalize “indigenous” or “native” people, but I know that my sense of peace, appreciation for life, and understanding how interconnected we all are, stems from the experiences I have had living and working with indigenous people.***

The powerful symbol that you see is a Bolivian flag representing the plurality of Bolivia’s indigenous peoples, the complexity of Bolivian society, landlocked in the heart of South America, where the depths of the Amazon meets the high planes of the Andes, which I am so proud to claim as part of my heritage. I hope that our world will evolve to allow for multiple worldviews to exist and thrive. How wide can we expand our mind, is our ultimate richness, all is circular, nothing is lost or gained.

I hope you enjoy “Stop”, and that the musicality inspires you and fills you with powerful emotions.

Thank you multimedia artist Miriam Speyer for the masterful highly symbolic artwork. I highly recommend her for commissioned artwork and also, she is a very talented musical artist. Please check her out!

I hope we keep up the fight and force true change in the USA. Demilitarise and defund the police allocating these resources directly to the community. Track individual police and hold police accountable when they use excessive force for any reason, not just when it results in severe injury or death. And so much more.

We can do so much. We can vote and make sure those who represent us follow through with their promises, we can protest in the streets, we can donate money, we can boycott businesses use prison labor or otherwise support a white supremacist agenda and we can directly support the black community, by, buying from black businesses, supporting and promoting black artists across disciplines.

I hope that we do not allow the numbing effect of living in a society of instant gratification consumerism to continue to drug us into inaction through surface-deep distractions, the illusion of division. I hope we can rediscover the unique creativity that lies in each of us, our power of expression, of true love.

Cruzando Corazones

After nearly a year-long production process, Cruzando Corazones comes to life, a 6 track EP packed with powerful symbolism and colorful expressions of important issues.

Tiempos de Tinieblas is a Hip-hop song by young Bolivian rapper EDY who Razteria met while volunteering at EnseñArte in Cochabamba. Co-produced by Jayme Arredondo it also features the charango playing of Bolivian star, Luciel Izumi. It’s a reminder of the end of Bolivia’s brutal oppressive history and a call to take control of one’s destiny in a free society. Recorded at LA Estudio and Truffula Oak studio.

Agua pa Camello is a Colombian AfroBeat song by SURATIVA PARLANTE from Bogota, Colombia. This 9-piece band combines indigenous roots music & AfroBeat. Reminiscent of Fela Kuti, the upbeat song takes on the serious issue of water scarcity and the vital necessity to share. It was recorded live at Arbol Naranja in Bogota.

Suerte features KALIMBA, a Latin Reggae band from Bella Vista, in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Quite simply, a love song infused with a feeling of gratitude for being alive. The lyric is by Argentinian lyricist Ariel Leira originally interpreted by Mercedes Sosa on the song Por Un Solo Gesto de Amor. Recorded at La Fragua Estudio.

Solo en la Carne features LUCAS ROCHAIX, a young jazz guitarist composer from Olivos, in the province of Buenos Aires, Andres Dellacasa on drums and Raian Valença João on bass. This song is the Spanish version of Razteria’s award-winning song Once Again (John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Grand Prize, World Music 2016). It is a humble wish to see, feel and hear the words of loved ones who are far away. Recorded at Chafirete studio.

Mosquito features female producer and multi-instrumentalist EMJE ROSE together with percussionist Oscar Reyes from Barranquilla, Colombia. Showcasing her vibrantly exotic feel of the Colombian Caribbean this is a fun song that takes on the message of Dengue fever prevention. Recorded and mixed at Afro Estudios.

Todas las Voces interpreted by Patagonian folklore band CELESTE Y LAS MIL JARILLAS is a version of “Cancion con Todos” by Julio Cesar Isella and Armando Tejada Gomez made most famous by Mercedes Sosa. A Latin American anthem, it is a message of solidarity and appreciation for each countries’ unique beauty.

Aventurera

Aventurera was recorded & produced at Razteria’s own Truffula Oak Studio. The studio’s name comes from being nestled in an old growth of live oak trees hidden in El Sobrante Hills, CA, and symbolizes a goal of sustainability with the imagery of the Truffula tree (the central focus in Dr. Seuss’s environmentally themed classic “The Lorax”). This album is groundbreaking in its richness, showcasing a collaborative synergy with talented independent artists from the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
